01 - 02 March 2009 in Tehran and 04 March 2009 in Mashad, Iran
INDM 2009 in its 4th year was held in Tehran and Mashad from March 1 - 4, 2009. The conference was once again very successfully organized by Reza Bathaee, the founder and promoter of the INDM series. INDM 2009 gathered together more than 300 participants in Tehran and 200 participants in Mashad. By putting the focus on resiliency, the conference organizer has chosen a complementary approach to the standardized, integrated risk management process.
GRF Davos has been proud to support INDM 2009 as a collaborating organization and to have the opportunity to participate with an exhibition- booth. Together with a number of international guest- speakers, GRF President Walter J. Ammann was asked to give a key-note lecture entitled “On the role of Resilience in Integral Risk Management”.
The conference was held for two days in Tehran and for one day in Mashad. The presentations and discussions at the conference made very clear that more attention and efforts have to be brought to resilience. Resilience has to be integrated into all national, regional and local development plans, into the emergency management and into civil defence and protection plans. The conference also made clear that resilient communities can only be formed in close partnership with national, regional, and local governmental and non-governmental agencies together with people of the communities, to withstand natural, technological, environmental and human made disasters. Only disaster resilient communities will have the capacity to absorb external or disruptive pressures through resistance or adaptation to maintain their essential functions and activities, or at least to recover from a disaster in the shortest possible time period.
